End of Innocence
The hand of Eve.
The moment before the Fall.
Her arm is upright.
The fruit is glossy and inviting.
The snake, depicting sin and death, twines seductively around her
forearm.
Its face is on the far side of the fruit, outside her field of
vision.
The mood is relaxed, peaceful, in harmony with God and nature.
The choice is yet to be made. |

Fallen
The hand of Adam.
The moment after the Fall.
His arm is down, lifeless, with the fruit rolling off his fingertips.
The fruit is dull, marred by an enormous bite.
The face of the snake has taken the place of the thumb.
The mood is desolate and hopeless.
Sin and death have been taken into mankind.

Redeemed
The hand of Christ.
The moment of our Redemption.
The fingers are straining for Heaven.
The nail-pierced wrist bleeds.
The blood becomes the snake, escaping.
By becoming the supreme sacrifice, Christ has finished it.
He has taken away our sins.
Once and for all time. |
