Maple (Old table leg)

Carved with pocketknife from an old Maple table leg, Whittled Whimsey #6 has a working lock literally at the head and hasp at other end, which is also a head. Both the lock and the hasp are noses on their heads. In between was a lot of interesting carving with nothing better to do.

This lock design utilizes the bolts and nuts that came with the table leg. It is a good lock. This head is chain linked to rotating collar and four-bar cage, which has three other cages rotating inside, with a four-pointed object in the last cage, four cages total. That is chain-linked to another collar rotating around a caged turnbuckle, which in turn is linked to a winged bird-shape. That is linked to the final piece, a tapering whimsical figure with caged legs, bouncy breasts, and nose, which swings out on pivot hinges to become the hasp. That is five whittled pieces from the 30" table leg, still one-piece, chain-linked.
