Inspired by a Holger Jensen work, a pair of pliers in Basswood, Drumm carved three working pliers in Holly, connected by twelve chain links, all in one piece. The late Holger Jensen must have had the last laugh when Drumm encountered one knot after another. Holly is a bush and takes about thirty years to form a trunk, which is full of knots from all the absorbed branches. It takes more decades before the trunk is knot-free, like a hundred-year old Holly tree. The tree Drumm carved was only 3" thick, a real knotty challenge. The difficulty level was high, especially since these are not just slip-joint pliers, but pivot joint.
