BEAST OF BURDEN?
He sat across from us at the table in the restaurant, a gentle giant of a man. “I want to serve.” Former dockworker, a man accustomed to hard physical labor, now with some time on his hands. Wanting to serve the Lord in any way he can. When asked what he thought his special skills were, without hesitating and with a wry grin, he said, “Beast of burden.” Humility and a sense of humor, what a guy…. If only he realized how much he is serving already. This man is an Encourager. A prayer warrior. One of those rare people walking God’s path that, comes not behind to push, or ahead to pull, but just beside, to share the load. He bears a quiet witness, lending an air of stability and quiet authority on the youth basketball court. Serves as a quiet but powerful example as he bows in prayer with those same kids in the chapel. He offers words of support and the promise to bring your particular dilemma of the day to the Lord in prayer and stands kettle, ringing the bell day after day in the rain, snow and wind. He shares our load, all the while bearing his own personal cross…. Beast of Burden? His words, not mine, but, after all, where would we all be today if there wasn’t a donkey, who bore the unborn Christ to Bethlehem? back to " healing hands healing hearts"
